Eric Bana announced as Tropfest Celebrity Guest Judge

AFI Award-winning Australian film legend Eric Bana will join the Tropfest Australia 2019 Jury; for the first time, Facebook will be the exclusive live-stream and content partner with an interactive show called Tropfest All Access; and hosting the main event will be Logie-nominated actor and comedian Rob Shehadie.

Bana is known for his acclaimed roles in ChopperBlack Hawk Down and Munich. Recently completing the true crime podcast turned Netflix original series, Dirty John, he is also working with renowned Australian filmmaker Robert Connolly on the film adaptation of Jane Harper’s best-selling novel The Dry. Together with a line-up of industry jurors, Bana will tap into his vast industry experience to determine a winner amongst the 16 finalists at Tropfest on Saturday 9 February at Parramatta Park. 

“I’m really looking forwarding to attending my first Tropfest and excited to see the raft of fresh, original ideas and works from our young emerging filmmaking talent,” said Bana.

“Bana has carved out an incredible career for himself both in Australia and internationally,” said Tropfest Founder John Polson. “I know the finalists will be absolutely thrilled to have such an iconic Australian star sit down and give their work his undivided attention.”

Hosting the event this year will be Rob Shehadie. Best known as Rocky in cult comedy series Pizza and Housos, Shehadie has earnt a Logie nomination for his Channel Nine series Here Come the Habibs. A proud Western Sydney local, he will bring his raucous brand of humour to the Trop main stage on event day.

“Come on down! Bring all your family and friends, your picnic baskets, your drinks, your blankets… then kick back, and watch 16 finalists fight it out on the big screens, for the title of Tropfest winner for 2019,” said Shehadie. “I hope to see you all there with me, in the heart of Western Sydney. It’s gonna be a great event!”

“I’ve always loved Rob’s work, which manages to keep you laughing out loud at every turn, all while offering great perspectives on diverse Australian identities,” said John Polson. “You can rest assured he’ll keep Trop fans totally entertained come event day!”

Tropfest is also a highlight of Parramatta Park’s Crescent Summer Series.
