The Jonas Brothers were doubting if anybody cared about their reunion

Smallzy catches up with The Jonas Brothers ahead of their special live performance for Nova’s Red Room Global Tour

Smallzy: Hey everybody the Jonas brothers are here! How are you boys? Who would of thought when I sat down 2 and a half months ago, in a top secret little interview, here we are! I’d like to flex a little bit, I was the first interview that you did for Sucker around the globe I believe?!

JB: Yeah! We had to have a full meeting after that interview, we felt we were giving too much away too early!

Smallzy: thank you for doing Nova’s Red Room for us

JB: we’re pumped! This is our first one!

Smallzy: We’ve come all the way here to see you, I know you guys have been incredibly busy travelling the world, I don’t think there’s a continent you haven’t touched over the last couple of days!

Nick: there’s a few!

Smallzy: Was it humbling to come back and watch the response you got? I can imagine you thinking, you know we’ll get the band back together, give it a crack, do some music – the music industry changes incredibly quickly, as you would imagine…

Nick: I asked them, straight up – in pretty much Australia in the time when we were having these early conversations.. will anybody care? I legitimately asked the question!

Joe: it’s relieving! The reaction! We definitely knew there were people out there waiting for us to get back together and asking when we are releasing new music, and the response was way bigger than we ever expected.. that’s so incredible for us!

Smallzy: the album is out on Friday, how are you feeling about it?

Nick: To say we’re excited is an understatement – we have had a really incredible run up to this whole thing – we came with a game plan, we sat with the team to talk about what we wanted to do and how we wanted to do it, so many times when you plan, life interrupts and things don’t go to plan, but it’s been incredible to see that every step of the way has been working as well as it has, and the response from the fans have been unbelievable, and we just want them to hear the rest of the record. Between Sucker and Cool, there’s a good idea of what the rest of the album has in store, but there’s a lot of depth in this album and it’s my favourite body of work I’ve ever worked on!

Smallzy: oh nice! And you boys feel the same?!

Kevin: For sure! It definitely does – what’s so interesting as well is that we’ve come from a lot of different places while creating this project, and when would come together we’d share those stories, and I think, you saw the Doc [Documentary], right? And I think what was really interesting was us  celebrating our differences now, and I think that really shines through in the album too.

Smallzy: Who did you play it to first in your personal lives? Your wives, friends, people across your musical journey?

Joe: Pretty much all of the above – especially our dad, is someone who we really really love playing new music for, and his excitement gets us going – he’s our biggest fan but also our biggest supporter, and he knows more about what’s going on online, and he watches everything – he’s actually here right now! He’s going to be at The Doc Premiere, which is awesome he has a very important part in the film.
