Home and Away star Tammin Sursok opens up about anxiety

‘I’ve felt complete calm for the first time in my life’

Former Home and Away star Tammin Sursok has opened up about her on-going battle with anxiety.

In a post shared to her Instagram account on Tuesday, the 36-year-old mother-of-two wrote:

‘Since we have pretty much been on lockdown since last Thursday -I’ve felt complete calm. For the first time in my life.

Now, for someone like me who has been completely honest about my struggles with anxiety for over 15  years, (where at times it’s been debilitating), you’d think that would be strange, right? It was strange to me too.

We had a really rough two years and was just seeing the light when this hit, and yet I have complete calm. Peace. I had to sit with myself for a while and meditate on the why. It hit me like a lightning bolt.

This is the first time in my life, I really believe, I have no control. Yes, I have some control  with the actual virus by staying home (which we are), eating well and supporting our immune system but that’s pretty much it

Since we have pretty much been on lockdown since last Thursday -I’ve felt complete calm. Yes, I have some control  with the actual virus by staying home (which we are), eating well and supporting our immune system but that’s pretty much it. And for the first time IN MY LIFE, I believe that what is happening, is that I’m practicing acceptance. My therapist always used to say to me, that if you want to get on the other side of anxiety, you have to accept the situation you are in and do the best you can. I don’t know how long this will last, I don’t know if our jobs will fall through, I don’t know if we will get sick, or my friends will get sick, I don’t know when my child will go back to school. I don’t know. No one does. SO we have to accept the situation and make the best of whatever we can. This post it isn’t about the deep sadness I feel for anyone who is personally affected and/or suffering And it isn’t about not doing your part in this emergency. Definitely STAY HOME, for yourselves, for your grandparents, and for every other person- , just like we are doing for you- this post is about how powerful acceptance is. Any maybe that has been the key all along. Love you all. And thinking of you every day T xo

Having my second daughter a year ago means that International Women’s Day has become even more important to me and our family. As they grow up and choose their careers, I want to make sure my girls are represented in all fields and have the same compensation and growth potential as their male counterparts. Women are underrepresented in STEM2D (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Manufacturing, and Design) fields and so I have teamed up with Johnson and Johnson’s to raise awareness and hopefully increase these statistics. When we Introduce girls to more STEM2D subjects we help make women catalysts for creating a healthier world. Today, my daughter and I will be doing the Band-Aid activity!
