During the COVID-19 pandemic, Delta Goodrem has been isolating in Sydney with her musician boyfriend, Matthew Copley, and the pair have been playing weekly concerts. And it was her September 4 session that sent fans into a frenzy, when viewers spotted the couple were both wearing rings on their wedding band fingers.
“Um … can’t not notice the weddings rings though?’ one fan wrote. “Are you both married now?” wrote another. The couple have yet to comment on the chatter, but it’s clear they’re there for each other through thick and thin.
After her earlier, high-profile relationships (see breakout), Goodrem has made a point of keeping her personal life under wraps. “I made a conscious decision when I was 30 that I’m not somebody who wants to talk about relationships,” the now 35-year-old told InStyle Australia in 2018.
Now that she’s in a serious relationship with Copley, she’s seemingly softened her stance. “I’m pretty consistent with saying to people that my private life is my private life, but we’re spending isolation together and, in our household, we’re both performers,” she told Stellar in May about her decision to share their intimate music moments. “Matt is an incredible musician, and we really enjoy working together.”
The talented pair were first snapped kissing while holidaying in Hawaii in January 2018, before going public with their relationship later that year on New Year’s Eve. Goodrem has since revealed that at the time, she was still recovering from having her salivary gland removed in October. Complications following the surgery left a nerve in her tongue paralysed, leading the singer to fear she wouldn’t be able to perform again.
But through it all, Copley has proven to be a source of support. “Everyone has had an extremely tough year,” Goodrem shared in an interview with WHO in July. “This year has also offered all of us a moment to pause, reset and to really reflect on the most important things in life.”
