In case the thought of an extended lockdown hasn’t horrified you enough, this week the trailer for upcoming dystopian film ‘Songbird’ was released, painting a picture of a world consumed by the mutated virus strain COVID-23.
KJ Apa stars as Nico, a courier who is immune to the virus, who races against time to save his love interest Sara (Sofia Carson) from a prison-like quarantine camp after she is exposed to an infected neighbour.
Directed by Adam Mason, ‘Songbird’ is the first film to be created during the pandemic and appropriately highlights our collective fear of a world that will never recover.
As millions of Americans are forcibly removed from their homes and locked up like caged animals with a Mad Max type hierarchy, Nico must battle through the post-apocalyptic dump and step up against the corrupt forces of oppression. ‘Songbird’ feels like an awfully feasible nightmare come true on the big screen, and artfully combines the classic thriller genre with a romanticized narrative of young love during a nearly four-year lockdown.
‘Songbird’ is coming to cinemas in Australia and New Zealand soon.
