REVIEW: Ariana Grande serves up a cohesive chilled album with ‘Positions’

Surprise! Ariana Grande is well and truly back.
Much to everyone’s shock, the singer announced her sixth studio album titled ‘Positions’ was dropping with just about two weeks notice and now it has arrived in all its glory.
This time around Ariana lets go of all the pain and heartbreak she dealt with on previous studio effort ‘thank u, next’ as she explores a more sensual side here.
Ari has found herself a new relationship and is in a different state of mind. She literally now has no tears left to cry!
While keeping in line with the sounds of both ‘Sweetener’ and ‘thank u, next’, she sort of blends the two here to provide a chilled RnB vibe that just works so effortlessly with her gorgeous vocals.
She has a bit of everything here in terms of themes. We see a grown a** woman on songs like “34+35” where she gets down and dirty along with “nasty” which sounds heavenly yet the lyrics are so “nasty”.
Keeping true to her past she takes some time out to serve some serious deep emotional cuts on “safety net”, “off the table” and the simply divine “pov”.
The upbeat pop bangers that popaholics will be checking for definitely go to first single choice “positions” and fire collaboration with Doja Cat on “Motive”.
‘Positions’ the album overall is not as instant as Ariana’s recent studio efforts but with each listen you warm up to the tracks and discover new favourites along the way. It’s definitely a grower type of album.
Verdict: While not as instant as Ariana’s previous projects, ‘Positions’ is a cohesive body of work that explores Ariana’s more sensual RnB side.
Best tracks: positions, pov, motive, just like magic, nasty, safety net and my hair.
Overall Rating: 8/10
