“The path to greatness is not what you think!” Watch the opening scene from the highly anticipated ‘Wonder Woman 1984’
After months and months of excruciating delays, the year from hell is about to be appropriately saved by the Amazonian princess of Themyscira, with the Christmas Day release of ‘Wonder Woman 1984’.
Last week, the blessed Warner Bros. did us all a huge favour and dropped the opening scene to the highly anticipated sequel, directed by Patty Jenkins, showcasing 3 mind-blowing minutes of an all-female Olympic slash Quidditch-like sports competition.
The tournament captured a young Diana (Gal Gadot) competing alongside her demigoddess warrior counterparts, led by the General of the Amazon Army, Antiope (Robin Wright), who is my absolute girl crush. The hypercharged rush of these events are infiltrated by flash-forwards to the present day Wonder Woman battling through a number of scenes, ending with a quick look at the film’s ultimate supervillain, Cheetah (Kristen Wiig).
Not only has the DC Universe proved itself to be a worthy competitor to big boys at Marvel Studios, but they have also just reiterated the most important factor, which is that women do in fact run the world. Representation is everything, and to see all these strong, beautiful, wonderful women excel in one of the most efficiently governed societies to ever exist, just reminds all those little girls (and unashamed adults like me) that we ARE worthy and we can do literally anything.
WW84 releases in cinemas on December 25 and exclusively on HBO Max.
