Zooey Deschanel: I bonded with Jonathan Scott over activism

Zooey Deschanel bonded with Jonathan Scott over their shared activism efforts.

The 41-year-old actress has been romancing the ‘Property Brothers’ star since August 2019, and has said one of the reasons they connected so quickly was because they were “aligned” on their passions for saving the environment.

Zooey is keen on helping other people to lead more sustainable lives through her shopping app Merryfield – which promotes access to better-for-you brands – while Jonathan focuses his efforts on green energy, and their common goal has brought them closer together.

The ‘New Girl’ star said: “It’s really inspiring how passionate he is about green energy and solar power. He’s always working to try to figure out solutions for those problems, and really wants to support people who are being innovative on those levels.

“I remember actually when we first met, he sent me his documentary and I was like, wow, we are so aligned on this level. Because we both really care about this one issue, but have different areas that we focus on.”

Zooey also said her concerns for the environment come from her position as a mother to her two children – Elise Otter, five, and Charlie Wolf, three – whom she has with her ex-husband Jacob Pechenik.

She added to People magazine: “I’m a mom, so I’m always concerned about what we are eating and using. So it’s great, because between the two of us we have ended up focusing on two big things that affect our environment.”

Meanwhile, Zooey previously gushed over Jonathan in April in honour of the TV star’s 43rd birthday, when she said she’s “the luckiest girl in the world” to be in a relationship with him.

She wrote: “Happy birthday to my kind, sweet, wonderful, hilarious, clever, generous, caring, handsome gentleman who sometimes orders pizza and grilled cheese at one meal.

“I love you always and in all ways. I don’t want to seem sappy or hyperbolic but the simple truth is: I’m the luckiest girl in the world. ()”
