Duchess of Cambridge 'can’t wait' to meet new niece Lilibet

The Duchess of Cambridge “can’t wait” to meet the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new daughter Lilibet.

The 39-year-old royal joined First Lady Jill Biden on a visit to a school in Cornwall on Friday (11.06.21), when she was asked about the latest addition to the royal family.

The Duchess replied: “I wish her all the very best. I can’t wait to meet her. We haven’t met yet. I hope that will be soon.”

Jill is the UK with her husband, US President Joe Biden, for the G7 leaders reception, which will also be attended by Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan confirmed the arrival of their daughter earlier this month.

The spokesperson said: “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.

“Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”

The Duke and Duchess – who also have Archie, two, together – named their little one, who weighed seven pounds and 11 ounces, after Harry’s late mother Princess Diana and his grandmother Queen Elizabeth.

The couple – who now live together in California, after stepping down as senior members of the royal family – added in a statement: “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
